One of our favorite trends that started last winter is the crocheted headwrap. I am so in love with them and excited to be able to wear our version, and share them with you! I love them because they are a little chunky but not overwhelming on your head. And the best part is they make you feel so in style when you wear them.

I am on the hunt for reusable grocery bags that are not only functional, but cute as well. I am not interested in carrying a bag around that has a stores name plastered all over it. I came across this pattern on etsy that looks promising and easy. Any sewers out there want to try it out? I think I would use a sturdier fabric and one that could be cleaned with a wipe.

How to--Fruit popsicles

This summer my girls are really into popsicles. Who can blame them? They are delicious. Only problem is all the sugar. My oldest always wants to eat more than one as if they were her meal. Right now we are loving the float kind with ice cream in the middle. Rootbeer, cream soda, orange...delicious.

So my solution to all the sugar...homemade fruit pops. Growing up we would always freeze juice in an ice cube trays with toothpicks as the stick, but now there are some really fun molds available. Ikea probably has the cheapest but if you want some other fun shapes check out these:

Now for the recipe. I came across this Strawberry recipe on Bakerella and figured it would be a great place to start. If the Cake Pop Queen likes it, then I am sure to as well. I am drawn to the recipe because the sugar is minimal and strawberries are so delicious. Plus, the kids will be eating fruit while getting their popsicle fix.

2 cups strawberries

1 Tb sugar

1 tsp lemon juice

pinch of salt

Hull the strawberries and toss all the ingredients in a food processor or blender. Pour into molds and freeze.

Good luck making your own popsicles and don't forget to share any recipes or pictures you have.

How To . . . make torn paper flowers

Simple Torn Flower Tutorial

What you'll need:

*Paper or card stock

*Brad or button

*Hole punch
*Ink for distressing

1. Start by ripping four circles out of your paper. The should get progressively bigger. I actually drew loose circles on my card stock so I could make sure they were not all the same size.

2. The fun part: crumple them up into little balls!

3. Flatten them out again and arrange on top of each other from biggest to smallest. If you want the distressed look (like my red flower above), ink the edges with an ink pad first.

4. If you want to use a brad for the center, punch a hole with a hold punch and put the brad in. You could also sew a button on or create another center.

5. Attach to your card, page, or project! This really must be the easiest project we've EVER posted.

Tip of the Week . . . What is that stain?

Do you have a stain in your carpet you can't rid of? Do I sound like an infomercial? I have been using a really great carpet cleaning product for years, (thanks to my Mom) and have to share. Most people have probably never heard of it, but it is sold in several different stores. The name of this great product . . . Folex!

Another great thing about this product is that it can be used in your carpet cleaning machines! It can pretty much be used on any fabric that is colorfast . . . upholstery, clothing, car interiors, walls etc.

Recently I have started experimenting with Photoshop and learning how to make my own cards, announcements, etc. I have come to realize that I need to invest in an upgraded version and take a class if I want to be able to make amazing cards like this one from SweetPeaBaby

I love that people are offering digital cards on Etsy because it is cost efficient. For $16 or less you can buy a custom image and then have the cards printed anywhere you chose. I love to use Costco but there are many places you could use, including your own printer.

Bliss Boutique starts today and will run until Saturday! It is a great boutique with so many vendors and cute products. Take some time this weekend and head to Pleasant Grove. While at Bliss, check out our new line of products we are debuting called Sweet Whimsy. If you bake, they are a must have (more on this later).

Bliss Boutique will be open June 17, 18 & 19 from 10am - 7pm and is located at 105 South 100 East. Bliss will be holding a raffle worth $500, so just one more reason to go. Once you have visited the boutique, head over to the Strawberry Days celebration and take a ride on the ferris wheel, and of course we would love to see pictures of that.

Tissue Paper Pom Pom's--how to

Everywhere I go lately I see tissue paper pom poms. Not a new concept by any means but definitely a new fun trend. I love how they can add so much color without a lot of effort. Depending on your color choices they can make a party bright and energetic, fancy or whimsical. Even Martha Stewart is in on the trend and has made a great tutorial for all of us!

Hanging Pom-Poms
1. Stack eight 20-by-30-inch sheets of tissue. Make 1 1/2-inch wide accordion folds, creasing with each fold.

2. Fold an 18-inch piece of floral wire in half, and slip over center of folded tissue; twist. With scissors, trim ends of tissue into rounded or pointy shapes.

3. Separate layers, pulling away from center one at a time.

4. Tie a length of monofilament to floral wire for hanging.

Leave it to Martha to come up with a napkin ring holder!

Napkin Rings
With just a few changes, these follow the same steps as the hanging pom-poms.

1. Stack four sheets of tissue. Cut a 10-by-5-inch rectangle, going through all layers. Make 3/8-inch-wide accordion folds.

2. Fold an 18-inch piece of floral wire in half, slip over center of tissue, and twist to secure. Trim ends of tissue.

3. Separate layers, pulling away from center one at a time.

4. Bend wire into a loop to fit around napkin, and twist end around loop to secure.
The pom poms look so easy I can't wait to have an excuse to make them. I suggested to my sister in law to make them into a mobile for her nursery. Wouldn't that be so cute!

Studio Fix Powder--Tip of the Week

A couple of weeks ago my youngest daughter dropped my pressed powder and to my dismay it turned into loose powder all over the floor. I buy my powder from MAC at Nordstrom and unfortunately there is not a store close to my house. I went a week without powder and it made me realize how much I need it and love the Studio Fix brand by MAC.

It is a foundation and powder combination but is still dry like a pressed powder. I can't handle wearing foundation so this is my answer to good coverage with out the gross feeling. The powder is a little pricey ($26) but lasts a long time. The last time I bought powder was in August.

If you are searching for a new powder give this one a try. Besides, it is always fun to sit down and have someone else do your makeup and match your colors.

Tip of the Week . . . Mr. Clean Magic Eraser

I'm sure by now, you have heard of the "Magic Eraser". Have you tried it? Think it doesn't work? Well, I'm here to tell you that it does. I love the Magic Eraser. It cleans almost anything and is well worth the money. I can tell you it even removes marker . . . permanent marker . . . from your wood furniture. Oh, how kids love to draw (on things they shouldn't). It cleans scuff marks on baseboards and doors, dirt and grim off your refrigerator handles, cleans your kitchen sink, bathtub and on and on and on. If you haven't bought the Magic Eraser, grab one at the store and give it a try! You won't be disappointed. Happy Cleaning!

Crocheted Headband Craze

Lately we have been seeing our Lydia crocheted headband popping up across the valley. Our very own Cheryl created a new version of an old headband with an original 6 petal flower. It is so fun to see others enjoying the headband as much as we do! The Lydia headband was one of Loopty Loo's original products so we thought it was time to spotlight it again. We love this headband because it is a perfect extension of the trendy headwraps everyone was wearing this winter (check out our version here) but unlike the wraps, it can be worn year round.

Gem Wallets

For Christmas I received a fabulous present from my mother-in-law. It is a pink Gem wallet and I am STILL in love with it. If pink is not your color the wallet comes in a bunch of other fun colors including black and brown.

I can fit everything I need and then some in the wallet and I can find everything quickly too. I feel so organized!

Through the years my preferences change on whether I want a small wallet or a big one but right now I am all for big. If you are in need of a new wallet check out the Gem wallets website for yourself.

Strap Happy--Tutorial

When I was in the 7th grade I took a photography class and fell in love. I carried around my Dad's SLR (film) camera with an awesome orange and brown strap. I took the camera everywhere and have some really good blackmail pictures of my friends and I "modeling". Ever since then I have wanted my own SLR camera.

Fast forward 18 years and I still am dreaming of owning my own SLR. Right now I am sporting a camera that looks like a mini SLR but doesn't have the speed or all the options. One thing my camera does have in common though is a neck strap, and it is uncomfortable. When the weather is hot my neck gets all sticky and I don't enjoy having to wear my camera. I have been wanting to make a fabric camera strap and since it seems like everyone else has an SLR, sniff, sniff... I thought you might want to know how to also!

How to get Strap Happy:

Start by measuring the webbing of your strap, length and width.

Don't include the leather in your measurement because it will not be covered. My strap is not as wide as an SLR so the measurements will be different.

Double the width of you measurement and add 1 inch. This will allow for seams and the thickness of the strap. Also add 1 inch to the length for seams.

Now cut your fabric. I used scraps that I had so I pieced them together but you can use one piece or even one print on the front and another on the back. That would make it reversible too. If you do use scraps make sure to allow for seam allowances so your final product is the correct length.

On each end fold over 1/4 inch and press with your iron. Fold over another 1/4 inch and sew across. This will give you a nice finished end.

Optional: Iron on some interfacing. This material will make the fabric more sturdy and add some thickness. If you don't have interfacing, no big deal. Another idea is to sew fleece on the inside to make it soft.

Fold the fabric in half length-wise with the right sides together. Pin and sew: 1/4 inch seam.

Using a safety pin turn the fabric right side out. Press the strap with the seam in the back.

Now you are ready to thread your strap through and start wearing your camera with style. If you need help getting the camera strap through the fabric, use the safety pin again.

This was so easy to make that I think I might need another one in summer colors! A little side note, if you are making a strap for an SLR camera it would be great to add a little pocket on one of the ends to hold your lens cap.

Tip of the Week--Picnic Style

Now that the warm weather is here (I think) we are starting to do more outdoor activities. One of our favorite things to do is head to the park with friends and pack a lunch. Usually our plans are made last minute and I am throwing together a lunch as we walk out the door, which means that more often than not I defer to the good old PB & J sandwich. Only problem is the sandwiches always ends up soggy by the time we actually eat. Here comes the revolutionary tip (or at least it was for me when I learned it)...put peanut butter on both sides of the bread! Ta Da! I have to be careful not to go overkill with the peanut butter but my sandwich always tastes like I just made it.

Ok, since the first tip was a little on the silly side, here's another little tidbit. For the coupon lovers, like myself, Costco has a $4 off Coupon on two bottles of Banana Boat 50SPF spray sunscreen. If you don't get the coupons in the mail, they are generally sitting on the customer service counter.

How To . . . make a plastic bottle birdfeeder

Instead of sending more plastic to the landfill, turn a plastic bottle into a and functional birdfeeder crafted like a birdhouse. This is a great green craft from Heidi Borchers for using the occasional plastic bottle.

Materials:
Aleene’s® Super Thick Tacky Glue™
9” x 16” piece of lightweight cardboard
2-liter plastic soda bottle with cap, washed and dried
Spray paint: black, brown
Acrylic paint, burnt umber, black, beige
Small sponge piece
Craft knife
3/16” diameter hole punch
3” square white shrink plastic
Paintbrushes: fine-tip ½” flat shader
Drill with 18” and 1/16” bits
16” length of braided cord (for hanger)
2-1/2” length 1/16” diameter wood dowel
Clothespins
Aleene’s® OK to Wash it Glue®
Pine bark pieces
Wooden craft stick
Fine-tip permanent black marker
26-gauge florist wire
Bamboo skewer
Window Pattern
Roof Pattern

Instructions: Transfer roof pattern to cardboard and cut out roof. Spray-paint both sides of roof and bottle cap black. Let dry. Spray paint bottle brown. Let dry. Working with 1 paint color at a time, dip dampened sponge into burnt umber and black and sponge-paint the bottle. Let dry. With craft knife, cut 1 (1-3/4” diameter) circle about 3” up from bottom of bottle for door. Punch 1 hole about ¼” below door.
Measure approximately 1-1/4” to left and right of door and transfer window pattern onto bottle. Paint design beige. Paint outline details in black paint using liner brush on each window. Paint beige wavy line around door. Let dry. Push dowel halfway into hole below door and glue to secure. Let dry.
Center and drill 1 (1/8” diameter) hole in bottle cap. Fold cord in half to form loop. Working from outside of bottle cap, thread cord ends through hole in cap. Knot cord ends. Pull knot up to cap and glue knot to cap. Let dry. Screw cap onto bottle.
Curve roof into cone shape, overlapping straight edges and glue. Hold edges in place with clothespins until glue is dry. Snip off tip of roof to leave hole for hanger. To help weatherproof the roof, brush with coat of OK to Wash-It glue on each side of roof. Let dry. Glue pine bark pieces to cover outside of roof (with Tacky glue). Let dry. For sign, cut 1 (2-1/2”) length and 1 (1-3/4”) length from craft stick. With shorter piece centered along longer piece, glue craft stick lengths side by side. Drill 1 (1/6” diameter) hole in each end of longer piece of sign at top edge.
Write “Welcome Home” on sign with marker. Cut 1 (5”) length of wire. Wrap center of wire around bamboo skewer to coil. Remove skewer. Insert 1 end of wire through each hole at top of sign, working from back to front. Bend up ends. Cut 1 (1-1/2”) length of wire. Bend wire in half to form hanger. Slip bent wire hanger onto coiled wire on sign. Working from outside, poke hanger wire ends through bottle about 1-3/4” above door. Bend wire ends to inside of bottle to secure hanger. Thread braided cord hanger through hole in roof, working from inside roof.

Tip of the Week - Now You're Cooking!

Need a good gift for a bridal shower? Kitchenware is nearly always a hit, but without recipes, how useful is it? Next time you give a cooking-related gift, try this presentation: Purchase a pie plate - a fancy ceramic one, one made of glass, or even a tin one - and line it with a pretty fabric or paper napkin or a dish towel. Then fill it with the (dry) ingredients for your favorite pie recipe: a small bag of flour, tins of cinnamon and nutmeg, some fresh apples, and, of course, the recipe. To keep everything in place wrap the pie plate in some tulle and tie it at the top with a pretty ribbon. Viola!!

Boutique fun

We had so much fun at this past boutique and part of the reason is because we are in love with our new display. A few weeks ago we were inspired to display our products on doors! We were so excited about the idea and even more so when it became a reality. One night I couldn't sleep because I was planning the layout for the doors. I had to get up and do some quick sketches so I wouldn't forget by the morning. Both of our best ideas seem to come this way. The weeks following the creation of Loopty Loo Designs contained many sleepless nights. I started keeping paper by my bed so I wouldn't have to go to the kitchen :)

Our display isn't quite finished yet because we ran out of time before the boutique but I wanted to share with you our progress so far. We have quite a few more additions so when everything is said and done we will share the final product as well.

I love this picture because every time I went to push the button someone was in the mirror. First I noticed myself standing there with the camera and then others. The girl in the mirror is Ashlie, the boutique owner, so hopefully she doesn't mind this picture. If you missed it, she was on "Studio 5" the day the boutique opened and did a great job.

New Crocheted Headbands!

We are excited to add 2 new headbands to our store . . . The Elle Headband & Quinn Headband.

Elle Headband

The Elle Headband is similar to our Lydia headband, in that it has 3 bands, but the Elle headband is adorned with a new larger stylish flower. The headband has elastic at the back to ensure a great fit for all ages.

Quinn Headband

The Quinn Headband has a simple band with a cute 7 petal flower attached. Our unique crocheted headband is perfect for children of all ages and even adults. A small coordinating elastic on the back of the headband allows for it to fit longer and be more comfortable.

Both headbands are available in all sizes and colors.

Today we received the highly anticipated Swiss Days letter. We have been waiting patiently for months now and knew it would be arriving early this week. So as soon as the lovely mail carrier dropped off the mail I was over to Cheryl's house so we could open the letter. We felt like we were waiting for college acceptance letters all over again. Would it be a big envelope or a small one? The suspense was killer.

I started reading the letter... "We are pleased to inform you that you have been selected..." AHHHH! Jumping, screaming, high fiving, pure elation. Back to the letter to see the details, "as an "Alternate" to Midway Swiss Days..." What? That should be an illegal maneuver! Who has time to keep their emotions in check long enough to read the whole first sentence?! Talk about your highs and lows.

So, for now we are on the alternate list. April 15th is the deadline for vendors to pay their fees so if there are any cancellations we have a chance of getting in still. After April 15th, and up until the actual event Swiss Days will fill the booths if there are cancellations. I guess we have more patient waiting to do. We have both had a really good feeling about this event so we are not loosing hope yet. Of course we don't wish any ill will towards the other vendors, but we are hoping our circumstances change :)

Moving forward though, we will be looking for other shows to enter. If you know of any that you love please let us know.

We have decided to be very ambitious with our new business venture and enter an application to Swiss Days. Busy Little Bees

We have been extra busy the last few weeks, first recovering from our Christmas "vacation" and second, we have been preparing for our professional photo shoot. Here is the next addition to our scarf line. This is the Little Ruffles Scarf. This is a long and simple scarf. Each end of the scarf ends in 3 rows of ruffles. The scarf is 5" X 66". The scarf shown is light gray in color. This scarf is available in several other colors including: black, white, cream, gray, blue, burgundy, dark brown, cafe and linen. New Scarf - Stella Scarf

We have been planning to add a few different scarves and here is the first of our scarf line. Introducing . . . the Stella scarf. We are of course planning on making this scarf in several different colors, but the color shown is linen. The unique thing about this scarf are the keyholesvthat allow you to easily slip the end of the scarf through the keyholes, keeping the scarf securely in place. Scarf measures 4 1/2" X 87".

We had our first boutique and thanks to everyone that came, it was a great success! We appreciate all of you that supported us by coming and if you were unable to make it . . . of course we still love you as well. We will be updating our blog with new items as they become available, so please check back often, and of course we would love if you passed on our site information to anyone that might be interested. Once upon a run two friends renewed their passion for being physically active. During the training they got to know each other even better and discovered they had a lot in common outside of athletics. The similarities started with baking and blossomed into crocheted flowers and handbags. After an excited phone call Loopty Loo Designs was born and the creating began.
